To Be or Not To Be

Some say natural hair isn't for everyone ... but it grows from your scalp! it can't get anymore "for you" than that - Abraham Lincoln
Early this year I relaxed my hair in March, my next hair style was  full frontal fringe, there was no need to retouch the frontal part of the hair reason being that it was full closure.  Next, I decided to try kinky braids. I heard its better done when one's hair is due so I didn't  bother relaxing my hair. I loved my kinky braids. I got so many compliments on the hair. Customers at work were requesting for directions to where I got the braids done. Even my mom that hadn't braided her hair since forever went to get hers done just like mine. Somebody also asked if I was part of  "them" team natural.
Then I realized that I was accidentally transitioning. Maybe it was as a result of the compliments I recieved, I wore the hair longer than I should have. On the day I took the braids out it was war, couldn't comb my hair. Consequently I had to practically pour a bottle of ORS Conditioner on the hair just to detangle and comb it, plus I had to solicit the help of mum. After about an hour and some minutes we were finally able  to comb through sha. Though I was left with a banging headache and hair loss regardless of this I was impressed with the increase in growth. I left the hair fallow for the next week just wore a wig to work  during the period it wasn't easy trying  to comb through the hair that week still I wasn't ready to relax it yet so I braided the hair again.
As previously stated I haven't used a relaxer since March and what's more I haven't decided whether to sustain the trend or go back to relaxing. Natural hair is hard work in all honesty I don't think I'm cut out for that. I read somewhere that there is a middle ground between relaxed and natural hair called texlaxed hair. Still weighing the my options sha. Maybe I'll just stay in between. Dunno sef...

You need to do your research about the team natural thingy, that's a good option there.

Uty! .. My exact state of mind at the moment... I admire some ladies with natural hair..and I also get disgusted by some.. Guess it all boils down to how well u can maintain it... Am Def doing d "big chop" soon and if it doesn't work for me, I wld relax d hair back..goodluck
P. S: I hear it's expensive to maintain.. Dnt know how true dat is

Hmnnn.....I'm so team natural.....and yes it is expensive to maintain....All ye need is to find products that work for you....if you have to comb...pls moisturise.....it makes it easier without making your head spin like a carousel.....there's no inbetween if I must add...cuz the texturiser is as good as a relaxer.... transition for as long as you want so that when you chop off...you'd still have enough to rock as a fro or twist...It is hard work....and I bet you ain't got that kinda time/patience....fingers crossed thou. ..lol

Oooh, did I just say November and Natural hair??? Yippee!!!! it is 1 year went natural! 1 year after I chopped off all my relaxed hair. ‎Even though my hair cannot be packed into a single bun yet, I am glad that the hair is so healthy, thick and full. ‎
**dancing skelewu**‎
I comb when my hair is wet and with loads of conditioners in it. I can't just wake up one morning and start combing my hair dry. ‎
I wash with conditioner. Loads and loads of conditioner to soften my hair. I only use Ose ‎Dudu‎ to clarify build up.‎
My natural hair journey has been so much fun. I am enjoying  every bit of it. ‎

This bothers me. Time and time again I hear would-be naturals, and even full blown naturals, complain that the cost of being natural is expensive and unreasonable…. and to that I call BULL****!!!‎

‎Being natural does NOT mean that you have to have every single thing that you see Youtubers and bloggers rant and rave about! In fact, there are plenty of things that you can grab at your local dollar store, that work just fine for natural hair! Being Natural is as expensive, or affordable as you make it, and if you decide to go broke behind grabbing every “boutique” brand product that markets itself towards us of the Kinky variety, then you have some issues that have nothing to do with hair!
Shea Moisture (a very affordable and effective product)  can be gotten in the local market
‎And then, who says that you have to use any commercial products at all?!?!? Your hair can be just as gorgeous with a good blend of essential oils, some shea butter, and a consistent regimen, ensuring that it stays clean, moisturized, and ultimately healthy
(‎Let us not forget the value of shea butter, and a good oil combo)‎

Well I have bin on dred locks since May 2008 and it has been an awesome experience for me. I always use a scarf(s) because of religious reasons, so I would say it has bin very affordable to maintain. I go to wash/mat every 2 weeks and I relock every month. I use whipped shea butter(ori). I get the Ori in a large qty, I put it in my mixing bowl and use the hand mixer to whip it till it becomes almost white, very soft and creamy. I take out almost half and put in a jar, I add mentol(sold by dos selling the shea butter) and whip for sometime till I can barely see the granules of the mentol, I store that in another jar! ( I heard the mentol helps wt dandruff control) My dreds touches my butt now=-Dand it looks very healthy. Did I mention dt its tinted to gold and wine?. I use mousse, spritz gel and lets dred on the days I relock. I have a sister who has her natural hair. She combs wt hot Comb, she uses coconut oil . Her hair comes out very light and easy to comb on daily bases, however it gets very thick the moment she washes. She repeats the hot comb process every week and she washes every 2 weeks. Her hair is very long and looking great. In my opinion natural hair may seem cumbersome when you are just starting, but when you get used to it you would love it. Hot comb or hand dryer dt has changeable heads( diFf types of combs) is a must if you must venture into natural hair. Hair Straightner is also very useful but you might need someone to help you as against the hot comb you can manage effectively on your own. Goodluck as you make a decision.

I tell you, it is really hard to maintain natural hair. I also haven't relax my hair since March. I chopped my hair off in July and it's growing pretty well, though I have been able to comb my hair despite how soft my hair is. I really love team natural and I hope I can maintain it the way things are atm. You can give it a trial babe. Hopefully, you will rock it well.

Well, I haven't been a fan of natural hair. It's too much stress. Africans are made with spongy thick hair. And it takes a lot to maintain it naturally. So personally. Il rather have my hair relaxed. It's easy to rock n stress free.

I just had my hair retouched a week ago...While my stylist was working on me,I thought to myself that would be the last retouching for the year.I then decided to start transitioning from next year especially when my stylist advised I go easy on the straightener...my hair was becoming lighter and less full...my relaxer change could be a reason for my dwindling hair bla bla bla.I always had full hair but enjoyed using the straightener instead of the dryer when I started having kids...it was an easier option for me.7years down the line...my hair is scanty and I miss my long+full mane.So I think I want to transition or at least wear longer lasting hairstyles that would ease my transitioning...Lol!All the best Uty...its worth a trial

Uty trust me it nt easy I also tried it before last year, I was keeping my natural hair for a whole year it was very stressful I don't comb my hair myself because of the pain n I make it immediately but after one year my hair came out well so I retouched it again. But this is wht I do. I retouch my hair on a year twice. Trust me it helps ur hair grow. Keeping it natural is stressful, mostly we Africans. Thank u.

Uty, lool.. you just wrote about me.. #teamnatural. One will surely make a decision of goin natural esp in a strange land where fixing hair alone is 120$; you go extra miles to get relaxer to buy and afta buying u do a serious research about who to re-touch the hair for you.. wat option is left? #Gonatural #GoOnDreads loool
